The real value lies in finding regular starters who are in form, fit, and have genuine routes to Fantasy points — without spending more than €4.5m on a goalkeeper or defender, €5.5m on a midfielder or €7.0m on a forward.
With Matchday 1 approaching, these are 10 budget picks worth serious consideration for UCL Fantasy 2026/27.
Goalkeepers
1. Yann Sommer — €4.5m | Club Brugge
The budget goalkeeper with the strongest immediate case.
Sommer has made an excellent start to life at Club Brugge, keeping clean sheets in three of his last four outings.
That is particularly attractive at €4.5m, especially when combined with his Champions League experience from his Inter years.
Club Brugge face Aston Villa at home on Matchday 1, so the fixture isn't risk-free, but Sommer's recent form makes him one of the most convincing cheap goalkeeper options.
Why buy: Recent clean sheets + proven UCL pedigree + €4.5m price.
2. Alex Meret — €4.5m | Napoli
Meret is arguably the safer starting-price play.
He has started all of Napoli's Serie A matches this season and therefore meets one of the most important requirements for a budget goalkeeper: you actually expect him to play.
Napoli's Matchday 1 fixture against Arsenal is difficult, but Meret becomes more interesting as part of a goalkeeper rotation strategy rather than necessarily being a Matchday 1 starter.

3. Daniel Svensson — €4.5m | Borussia Dortmund
Svensson is one of the more interesting cheap defenders because there is attacking potential beyond the usual clean-sheet gamble.
He scored twice in last season's Champions League and provided the assist for Dortmund's goal in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup.
At €4.5m, that attacking profile makes him considerably more attractive than a conventional centre-back at the same price.
Dortmund open against Villarreal, giving Svensson a realistic opportunity to start the campaign with Fantasy returns.
Why buy: Starting role + attacking involvement + €4.5m.
4. Joshua Vagnoman — €4.0m | Stuttgart
If you want to go even cheaper, Vagnoman is the standout €4.0m option.
He has already scored this season, while Stuttgart have a home Matchday 1 fixture against Viking.
That combination matters. At €4.0m, you don't need elite underlying numbers — you need minutes, attacking upside and a favourable enough fixture to justify selecting him.

5. Martin Baturina — €5.5m | Como
Potentially the best midfield budget gem in the game.
Baturina announced himself immediately with a goal and assist away to Napoli.
That's exactly the type of start you want from a €5.5m midfielder: attacking involvement rather than relying solely on recoveries or clean-sheet points.
Even better, Como have a home fixture against Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 1.
He isn't simply cheap.
He's cheap and already producing.
Why buy: Goal + assist in Serie A + €5.5m + home UCL fixture.
6. Maxi Araújo — €5.5m | Sporting CP
Araújo is another €5.5m midfielder who has already delivered in 2026/27.
He has one goal and one assist to start the campaign and gets a home Matchday 1 fixture against Galatasaray.
The appeal is that his points potential isn't dependent on one specific route.
He can contribute through attacking returns while also benefiting from UCL Fantasy's midfield scoring system.
Why buy: Goal + assist + home fixture + €5.5m.
7. Zlatko Tripić — €5.5m | Viking
This is the high-risk, high-upside pick.
Tripić scored in both legs of Viking's Champions League play-off victory, including a penalty.
At €5.5m, a midfielder with penalty involvement and current scoring form deserves attention.
The obvious problem is the fixture: Viking travel to Stuttgart on Matchday 1.
So this isn't necessarily a player to blindly start every week. But as a squad option — particularly if Viking's fixtures improve — Tripić offers genuine differential potential.

Arguably my favourite forward budget gem.
Malen has been sensational since joining Roma, scoring 20 goals in 22 appearances for the club.
And the current form is even more compelling: five goals in his first two games of this season.
That is exactly the profile you want from a €6.5m forward.
He's not a punt based on historical reputation.
He's producing right now.
Why buy: Five goals in two this season + 20 in 22 for Roma + €6.5m.
9. Ricardo Pepi — €6.0m | PSV
Pepi could be one of the easiest ways to free up serious money for premium attackers.
He has already scored twice this season for PSV and is reportedly on penalty duty.
That's a hugely important detail in UCL Fantasy.
A €6.0m starting forward with penalties and a high-scoring team environment has a much higher ceiling than his price suggests.
PSV also have a home Matchday 1 fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Why buy: Two goals + potential penalties + €6.0m + home fixture.
10. Luis Suárez — €7.0m | Sporting CP
Suárez is the more established option.
He scored 38 goals in all competitions last season, including five in the Champions League, and enters the campaign as Sporting's main attacking threat.
His €7.0m price puts him right at my budget forward limit, but that is still considerably cheaper than the premium UCL forwards.
More importantly, Sporting's opening fixture is Galatasaray at home, giving him one of the more attractive attacking fixtures among the budget forwards.
Why buy: 38 goals last season + five UCL goals + home MD1 fixture.
His UCL Fantasy profile also shows an excellent underlying attacking profile, including 3.30 shots and 1.85 shots on target per 90 last season.
