How Does The Assistant Manager Chip Work In FPL?

The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has introduced a new boost for the second half of the 2024/25 season: The Assistant Manager Chip. This allows FPL managers to incorporate real Premier League managers into their fantasy squads, earning points based on the actual performance of these managers' teams.

How Does the Assistant Manager Chip Work?

Once activated, the Assistant Manager chip enables you to select one Premier League manager to join your FPL team for three consecutive Gameweeks. During this period, you'll accumulate points based on the manager's team's real-life performances. The scoring system is as follows:

  • Win: 6 points

  • Draw: 3 points

  • Each Goal Scored: 1 point

  • Clean Sheet: 2 points

Additionally, if your selected manager's team secures a win or draw against an opponent ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table at the start of the Gameweek, you'll earn extra "table bonus" points:

  • Win against higher-ranked team: 10 extra points (totaling 16 points)

  • Draw against higher-ranked team: 5 extra points (totaling 8 points)

It's important to note that during the three Gameweeks when the Assistant Manager chip is active, you cannot use any other chips.

Selecting and Managing Your Assistant Manager

Premier League managers are assigned prices ranging from £0.5m to £1.5m, reflecting their teams' potential to achieve wins and score goals. For instance, top managers like Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta are priced at £1.5m. Once the three Gameweeks conclude, the amount spent on your Assistant Manager will be refunded to your FPL budget.

If you wish to change your Assistant Manager during the active period, you can do so by using a free transfer or incurring a -4 points hit, similar to transferring players in your squad.

Remember, the Assistant Manager counts towards the three-players-per-club limit. For example, if you already have two players from Liverpool and add Arne Slot as your Assistant Manager, you can only include one more Liverpool player in your squad during this period.

Strategic Considerations

Activating the Assistant Manager chip during a Double Gameweek can be particularly advantageous (as was the case with some FPL Managers for Double Gameweek 24) but obviously means you can't use other chips at the same time such as the Triple Captain chip.

Therefore, careful planning is essential to maximise the benefits of this chip. Consider your team's composition, your rank tier focus, upcoming fixtures, and the performance trends of potential Assistant Managers' teams when deciding the optimal time to deploy this chip.
